About Our School

Rodeo Hills Elementary School serves an elementary school population from the communities of Rodeo, Crockett, Port Costa, Tormey, and parts of Hercules. The District started construction on the new site in 2003 after the passage of a local bond and Rodeo Hills opened up in September, 2004. The new school replaced Hillcrest Elementary (1951-2004) as the sole K-5 school in the John Swett Unified School District. Built on the site of the former Garretson Heights School, the school currently houses 665 students with a staff of 24 teachers.

  • Rodeo Hills is a place where our entire community feels safe, empowered to learn, and differences are celebrated.  Students are prepared to be strong, successful leaders of today and tomorrow.

  • Leader in Me is a program based on the & Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen Covey. We are encouraging students to be leaders in school and take responsibility for their learning through personal and academic goal setting.

  • JSUSD is an AVID District.  Rodeo Hills Elementary uses AVID strategies which focus on systems for preparing students for future college and careers.  Students will be learning several key skills in WICOR (Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization, and Reading) which will prepare them for their future.  

  • Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) is an evidence-based three-tiered framework to improve and integrate all of the data, systems, and practices affecting student outcomes every day. PBIS creates schools where all students succeed.

  • Restorative Practices is an approach focused on building healthy relationships and promoting a positive, supportive school community. Instead of focusing on punishment when conflicts arise, restorative practices aim to understand the root causes of behavior and help students take responsibility for their actions. This process encourages open dialogue, empathy, and problem-solving to repair harm and strengthen relationships. By using these practices, we aim to foster a respectful, compassionate environment where all students feel valued and supported.
